Technical Writing

"How come you didn't go to mass communication?”
You know it’s like whenever you do something different, people will always ask you questions. Its human nature, some are curious, some would think that I am fool and some might actually feel that this is a good field for them too. Questions are part and parcel of anything and everything new that comes up. But I am pretty sure that I am not the first person to do something of this sort. There are hundreds and thousands of people who are pursuing Techno Commercial as a fully fledged career. Probably I come across such questions more often because I am still studying BE and people get amazed when they see that I am already so clear about what I want to do.

Definitely such questions are obvious but the answers to such questions are more obvious. I have always been a scientific person, all my approaches and deductions are always scientific but there is huge difference between being scientific and technical. I don't enjoy technical work but that does not imply that I don't have interest in technical fields. This is the foremost reason as to why I am in Techno Commercial. I wanted to integrate my management skills with my technical knowledge and hence Techno Commercial came to my rescue.

Technical Writing

Technical Writing is one of the most significant part of marketing technical products. A person from a technical background can write about a technical product more efficiently as compared to a person from a non-tech background as technical writer must understand the core technical working of the product and analyse it accordingly. It is the jobs of technical writers to enable a non-technical person understand a technical product. The main part of the technical writing is its content. No customer would want to read a vague story written on a product, everybody wants precise and to the point information and hence it’s very important to define the purpose of writing in the very beginning of a technical article. The content must coordinate functionalities and provide the apt data that audience is searching for.
A technical article must be focused on the exact features of the product though the merits can be compared to other products. Note that only merits should be compared. Projecting some other product which is better than our product is a big no!!! The customer will simply slip away from your hands.
It is very important to define a standard process of the product because the customer is always interested about the front-end and not the black box of the product. Standardization of the process always provides a direction to the customer and hence with the right content we would be able to influence customer's mind easily and effectively.
Moving ahead, for a technical writer it is very important to simplify complexity. He/She must be able to put complex coding algorithms in simple words accentuating the key technology used. It’s always good to put complex and complicated things in an attractive and descriptive way for the customer. Identifying the key technological words and relating them to the working of the product is very important. It is this simplicity that will guide the user to the correct way and help him understand the product better.

Is Technical Writing all about writing technical articles?

I will answer this question in my next blog!! :p

Thank You
Cheers!
